As insane as it seems, we are already at the end of the 6th month of 2014. So far, I've faced a surprisingly large amount of 'route changing' decisions. Route as in, I thought I knew where I was headed but somehow I'm now on one of those really annoying GPS routes that I'm not used to taking. I am constantly alert to see what the next direction is going to be, anticipating getting there and hoping it has led me in the right direction. But overall, I must admit that I'm 50% nervous and of course, 50% really freaking excited about reaching my destination.
Being selfish when it truly matters is actually quite difficult. Being confident about moving forward and growing as an individual isn't easy, especially when uncontrollable factors restrict you. But, if every decision was easy, nothing would be worth it, right? At the end of every day, your decisions are what create your future. Making mistakes make you wiser, moving past the negativity makes you stronger and being confident in each step helps you succeed. Knowing you are the reason you are getting where you want to be is the most satisfying and triumphant feeling there is.
You're taught your whole childhood to share and think of others before yourself. Suddenly you blink and find yourself in your 20's and life is some how speeding past you. Now you're at a point where thinking of others first has become something so natural to you, it's being selfish that is hard. The most important decisions quickly become about you, and no one else can make them but yourself. Whether they regard your career or making it to your 'success', whatever you may define the word to mean. Your whole life you're going to be running, sweating out all the hard work you've put in. It's just you out there competing, hoping to get the glory you deserve. So why don't you deserve it? Shouldn't you come first?
Remember, it's just you when you make it to the finish line. Be the reason you got there.
