I find, especially after such a long winter, it is so difficult to feel good. All you've done is eat crappy food, lay around the house, watch endless episodes of Girls and Game of Thrones, shop, eat more and gain a few unwanted pounds. I visited the Yoga Conference yesterday here in Toronto and it really got me thinking about being good to yourself. The entire Metro Toronto Convention Centre was packed with good looking, athletic, happy, positive and motivated people, making great choices to create a healthier and happier lifestyle by eating right and being good to their bodies. I then came home to find my roommate on a juice cleanse. I asked why juicing? Why eat an overload of fruits and vegetables in a day to get the daily recommended amount of nutrients, and feel sick and constipated, when you can drink a glass of 5 carrots, a bunch of spinach and kale, and sweet potatoes without a sore jaw...
So, how do you be good to yourself?
Your body - You are what you eat. You want to feel good in your skin. Exercise, eating organic and non-processed foods, regular check-ups and learning how to keep your body running smoothly is so important. Your body is a machine and there are so many little things that can damage it without proper care. Like wearing contact lenses during the night or rarely clipping your toe nails. Food as well. You can't eat a slice of pizza everyday and expect to feel good inside or out. The food you eat directly effects your skin, your energy, your concentration, your mood...literally everything.
Your mind - It needs to be fed too. Reading, writing, challenging yourself and being creative are all ways of feeding and exercising your mind. It keeps you young, it keeps you awake and it keeps you motivated.
Your soul - It's who you are. It's what you take with you when you pass on. Of course that's all subject to ones beliefs, but I believe in order for your soul to stay strong, you must commit to being the best you that you can be. Always be honest, respectful, ambitious, motivated and motivating. Be a good friend and someone that others want to be a good friend to. Always see the two sides of every story and be just and fair. Never judge based on unknown factors and always be open minded.
As the spring season approaches, it's time to thaw our cold bodies and closed minds and jump into being a better and healthier version of ourselves. I promise if you don't feel more content with yourself and your surroundings, you're not pushing yourself hard enough.
Be good to you, you deserve to be treated well.
